Reclaimed

Found and reclaimed this gorgeous wool gabardine suit jacket and matching skirt (waist size impossible, who were these tiny women?) from the forties. The jacket is loaded with custom details from the notched lapel to the turned back cuffs on the sleeves. The buttons are covered and they fasten through bound buttonholes. This may have been a custom tailored set. The label reads Frankel's, Des Moines. I love the attention to detail that was so common in clothing of this era. Click on the photo to enlarge if you want a closer look. This is a rare find in this part of the country. Score.
Yes, I will have to redo the waist to wear it :)

Beautiful suit! I know what you mean by the small waist size. I have my mother's wedding dress from 1934 and was just looking at it the other day. I don't think I could have fit into it ever.

The suit is gorgeous! I am amazed at the difference in sizing, even just on sewing patterns!

Argh! I'm a wee little thing, and NO modern clothing fits! I'd be thrilled to take that gorgeous suit off your hands!

One word for ya: GIRDLES!! That's how their waists were teeny weeny! And body shapes were so different - not as muscular or big generally as we are today.

What a great find!
