The answer of course - is so that I can wear my new crinoline under. What was the question? Oh; has it really been so long since my last post? Quick check, oops. If you had any thoughts about it at all, I'm sure you wondered if I've taken a hiatus.
I actually envisioned a photo shoot in the leaves, with the cottonwoods turning colors and radiant in the background. We had a snow storm and the leaves are brown and on the ground now.
I am a little uncertain about the neckline. The line drawing does not fully show the extent of the scoop on the bodice. Very scoopy. Seriously scoopy. Undergarments are going to be an issue here. The bodice is completely lined and I suppose you could just skip it (undergarments that is) if you were inclined. I am more inclined to manage with a supporting cast, if you get my drift. So.. not to sure what to do about that. No, I did not make a muslin first, you silly.
A little close-up of the fabric.
I ended up making my own crinoline. That however; is a whole other post.
disclaimer: I know that scoopy isn't a word it showed up on my spell check.
second disclaimer: I am a huge fan of making a muslin first, before you cut into your 1950's vintage fabric.

What a cute dress, fabulous. I love the colours and the shape. And the scoopy neckline :-) Great job!
What a gorgeous dress!
Beautiful dress, the fabric is lovely and autumnal.
Beautiful!
Scoopy is a great word. Thanks for inventing it. Your line about a "supporting cast" is wonderful as well. What a beautiful dress.
That's a beautiful dress. I have a sugestion for the scoopiness. You could find a piece of beautiful, scalloped edge lace and tack it to the inside. The lace could be shaped into a "v" at the center, or go straight across. It would look like the top of a camisole.
Just caught this on Sew Retro...it is lovely no matter what! Put it with an ivory cardigan and you're good to go :D
Perfect autumn dress! and yes...muslins are a good thing...

Oh, I love everything about it, and I like the picture with the suitcases. Kind of takes you back in time! Very nice. :-)
I love your dress. It is so beautiful
Oh, your dress is gorgeous! Perfect for fall -- and for sipping hot chocolate while looking out at the snow.
So is that Simplicity 3592 as is? It looks great. Nice job!
That is a beautiful dress, both the style and the fabric! Strapless bras are horrible, but that would probably solve the neckline problem... :)
Perfection.
I've got to get myself a crinoline-- please post about yours!
Gorgeous fabric....I love the cut of the dress!
So cute!! I love it! you could definitely put some lace or something to fix the undergarment issue. that might be cute too! I hope you post about your crinoline soon too! I would really love to hear about it!
What a fabulous dress! Loved how you staged the photo with the vintage suitcases!

New look bodice
Simplicity for the skirt
Loved the suggestions for the neckline, thanks ladies.
I'm not a big fan of vintage, but I love this dress. It is so perfect for spring.
I love this. Love beyond love and wish you had made it for me! Also, your 'backup' photoshoot is in my opinion a fantastic shoot. As a photographer, I prefer the simplistic background. You would have lost that beautiful fabric to the fall colors. :) Happy sewing!

Saw this on Sew Retro. It's so beautiful I'm practically hyperventilating. I want one!
Very pretty dress, even if it is snowing!
Beautiful, beautiful dress! I'd be interested to see the neckline when the dress is worn; may be a little tricky with the undergarments, but I tend to find that shape of neckline really flattering (especially with the small waist/full skirt combo). Is it cut too low to wear a strapless bra underneath?
Breathtaking. Just breathtaking.

That is SO BEUATIFUL!
It's incredibly 'stepford wife' and I LOVE it!
I absolutely LOVE this dress. It is spot-on terrific. Seriously wonderful.
